Olympia Meats recalls ready-to-eat pork deli meats due to misbranding and undeclared allergens

WASHINGTON, May 6, 2022 – Olympia Meats, a Portland, Ore., facility is recalling approximately 862 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) pork deli meats due to misbranding and undeclared allergens, the Safety and Security Service announced. US Department of Agriculture Food Inspection (FSIS) today. The product contains pistachios (nuts), a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label.

RTE Pork Deli Products are labeled as Mortadella Classica products but contain Pistachio Mortadella product. These items were manufactured on February 10 and 13, 2022. The following products are subject to recall [view label]:

  • 4 pound vacuum-packed pieces of “OLYMPIA PROVISIONS MORTADELLA CLASSICA WITH GARLIC AND SPICES” with best before dates of 2022-06-13 and 2022-07-14 and lot codes of 0422 and 0402.

The recalled products bear the establishment number “EST. 39928″ inside USDA inspection mark. These items have been distributed to locations in Maine, Oregon, and Washington for retail and food service.

The problem was discovered when the producing facility notified FSIS of a retail consumer complaint that the product contained pistachios.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse effects due to the consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about injury or illness should contact a health care provider.

FSIS is concerned that some products are in consumers’ refrigerators. Consumers who have purchased these products are asked not to consume them. These products should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.

FSIS regularly conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify that recalling companies are notifying their customers of the recall and that steps are being taken to ensure that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, retail distribution lists will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
