Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Security Agency (NIMASA), Dr Bashir Jamoh reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to helping victims of natural disasters across the country in order to reintegrate them into society. .
The DG made this known by donating relief and empowerment materials to the Ebonyi State government for the internally displaced persons (IDP).
While presenting the articles to the Ebonyi State Government, Dr Jamoh, who was represented by the Agency’s Director of Coasting Trade Services, Ms Rita Uruakpa explained that the board and management of NIMASA made the decision to assist internally displaced persons (IDPs) across the country in recognition of the plight of the victims and the need to assist state governments in this regard.
According to DG, “we realized that we also had to make our contribution to support the victims of floods and other disasters due to the suffering caused by these disasters which also resulted in them being displaced from their homes. And since the government cannot do it alone, NIMASA’s board and management have approved the provision of relief supplies to states across the country, Ebonyi being one of them, to improve the fate of the population. That is why we are here today.
The Managing Director further called on other well-meaning Nigerians and business organizations to come to the aid of victims who have been displaced due to social unrest in order to reintegrate them into society. Receiving the articles on behalf of the government and people of Ebonyi State, the Executive Secretary of the Ebonyi State Emergency Management Agency, Pastor Ken Ozonma Eze, thanked the leadership of NIMASA for coming to support the government in taking charge of the well-being of its population.
Pastor Ken, who applauded Dr Bashir Jamoh’s visionary leadership as the head of the NIMASA administration, said the state government will ensure equitable distribution of the materials to those affected.
He assured that the National Emergency Management Agency will visit the localities of the victims and distribute the relief material to them.
Items featured by NIMASA include mattresses, mats, rice, cereals, sugar, noodles, palm oil, vegetable oil, and consumables like baby diapers, detergents, soap and disinfectants. Other items include grinders, sewing machines, motorcycles, among others.
It will be recalled that NIMASA distributed relief material every year to the states of the federation. This is another phase of the distribution which should cover all geopolitical areas of the country.
