31-year-old elementary school teacher dies in bridge truck crash

RICHMOND, Calif. (February 3, 2022) – Wednesday night, 31 Michael Baroja was killed in a large rig accident on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge.

The accident happened shortly after 7:00 p.m. when a Toyota sedan and a large truck collided at mid-range on the bridge.

Officials say Baroja’s 1988 Toyota Supra stalled on his way home from work, heading east on the bridge. Shortly after, an eastbound tractor-trailer rammed the rear of the Toyota.

Upon impact, the semi-trailer caught fire. Fortunately, the driver of the big truck managed to escape from the vehicle. However, the driver of the sedan was found trapped inside the car.

Due to the extent of the injuries sustained, doctors pronounced Baroja dead at the scene. The 31-year-old had worked at Robert Louis Stevenson Elementary School in San Francisco’s Sunset neighborhood for six years.
