Appiatse explosion: NADMO appeals for food donations for victims

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has appealed to philanthropists and organizations to donate food and essential items that will meet the needs of victims of the Appiatse blast.

NADMO noted that a variety of staples such as maize, beans and tubers will go a long way in providing relief to survivors of misfortune who are currently struggling to bounce back to their usual lives.

Since the blast happened about three weeks ago, corporations and individuals have come to the aid of the victims with relief supplies and food to make their lives comfortable.

One food that has dominated donations is rice.

Although this is a good gesture, the Organization has appealed for the provision of a variety of food items as most people are not accustomed to regular consumption of rice.

NADMO Camp Director Bright Adjei said these things when a Takoradi-based company, Western Industries Limited, donated tubers of yams, gari, maize, beans, groundnuts, dried fish and other things worth 70,000 GHC to the people.

Mr Adjei noted that it would be appropriate for the outfit to be consulted on the needs of victims before donations are made.

He asked for more tents to house men who are still staying in a hotel in Bogoso.
